Got Gift Cards?
Are you still carrying around gift cards you got last December (or earlier)?
Gift cards have become more popular than ever, especially with children and teenagers. You can carry them around in the event you might go to the store, or you can keep them in a safe place, at home, until you are ready to use them. Either way, some gift cards have expiration dates or fees that apply when they aren’t used, keeping you from enjoying the full value of the gift card.
A free website, called GiftCardTRACKER, allows you to keep track of your gift cards, paper gift certificates and online gift certificates. You can also set up email reminders to yourself so you remember to use the cards. You can note what you want to use the card for, too.
They also offer a “Gift Card Report Card,” which is a list of companies that sell gift cards and what the expiration terms are. The list is helpful whether you already have gift cards, or if you are thinking of buying them for someone.

Find Your Stillness
In all the busyness of your life, rushing around to get everything done, don’t forget to take some time for yourself. Most people think they can’t take on one more task, but try doing something that will make you feel better, allow you to concentrate more and make better use of your time: Be still.
Try to meditate for 10 minutes every day. Meditating causes you to breathe consciously, which can help to relieve pain, depression and anxiety. Set a timer for 10 minutes and sit quietly, focusing on your breathing. Some people like to listen to music or nature sounds while they meditate. If you need help getting started, there are CDs and DVDs available. Check your library before you commit to buying anything and choose one that has a variety of lengths so you can meditate for a shorter or longer period.
You can accomplish the same feeling of relaxation and rejuvenation by practicing yoga or by spending time outside in a garden or by the ocean. Although it may seem like you are adding one more thing to an already-busy schedule, stilling your thoughts for a short period can actually help you get more out of your day.

Hit or Miss
Although it is still cold out in many parts of the country, it is not too early to start planning a gardening project. If you are going to be digging this spring and summer to plant or add features to your yard, call Miss Utility before you dig.
In order to avoid hitting underground utilities, call 811, which is a free call from anywhere in the US. With one phone call, you will make contact with all the companies that have pipes and wires underground, including phone, gas, sewage, water, electric and cable. If you dig without calling and hit something, you can be fined and charged for repairs.
Whether you are planning on a digging a pond or just transplanting some bushes, be prepared and call Miss Utility beforehand.
