I have a client who calls
working with me “a booster shot of guilt.” Not that I say or do anything to prompt
her feelings of guilt; it's that she feels bad for letting things deteriorate to their
current condition.
She has a great sense of
humor and we laugh a lot when we work together. (She regularly asks me if I’ve
found the Hope Diamond when I’m sorting her things. And, yes, she
encouraged me to share all this with you.)
I thought about her “booster
shot” comment when I saw this blog post
from lifehacker. It explains what Professional Organizers really do and
how you can benefit from working with one of us.
One of my
favorite quotes from the piece is
There's more to being a professional organizer than just tossing down three bins marked "keep," "trash," and "donate," and there's more to their job than making IKEA shopping trips with your credit card in tow.
Professional organizers are trained, skilled specialists who help people create order where it is lacking in their lives, so that they can make long-term improvements and keep disorder at bay.
When you encounter things you’ve
done that just don’t seem to make sense, do you despair or do you try to find
humor in the absurd?
