Shopping online can be a real time saver. To make sure that you are shopping safely, take the following precautions:
Check for spyware on your computer. To get rid of spywre, install software such as Webroot Spy Sweeper or free Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition (download.com).
Before paying, check your browser window for “https”, “SSL” or an unbroken key or closed-lock icon. These assure that the retailer is safeguarding your credit card number.
After shopping, opt out of the confirmation email. If the site includes your card number, the digits may not be secure. Instead, print your shopping screen or receipt as confirmation.
