Back to School Shopping

Every year it seems like the ads for back-to-school shopping come out earlier and earlier. This year merchants are promoting heavily to get people to spend during these tough economic times.

Before you blow the budget on back-to-school deals, think about what your kids really need for school. Will a binder with a favorite cartoon character persuade your child to do better in school? Many teachers, in fact, are asking parents not to purchase school supplies with well-known characters on them because students get distracted, chatting about TV shows or movies instead of doing their work.

Do you still have supplies left from last year (or the year before)? While many schools give a detailed list of supplies they want children to bring, they don’t have to be brand new or match each other.

Decide how much you are willing to spend and stick with it. Your kids will learn a valuable lesson about spending. Have you cut back on spending for the new school year? Leave a comment below.
