Do You Want More Time?

I wish I could give it to you. Unfortunately, there is no way to get more time. There is, however, a way to use your time more effectively, so it feels like you have more time to do things.

The first thing you need to do is figure out how you’re spending your time now. If you say you want more time to study or cook or exercise or declutter, look at your typical day. Do you spend time on social media, commuting, eating out, watching television? Is there something you can stop doing so you can gain back that time?

Can you combine activities so that you’re doing something you want to do while you’re doing something you need to do? You can fold laundry, exercise or plan meals while you watch TV. You can listen to instructional tapes while you commute. You can walk at lunchtime instead of staying at your desk.

Just remember that trying to do two high-brainpower activities at the same doesn’t work. That’s how multitasking got a bad reputation.

While you won’t gain more minutes in your day, you will be spending your time more thoughtfully. What activities can you combine?
